Top bird hunting in Northern Dalarna

Welcome to the beautiful surroundings of Northern Dalarna for exciting top bird hunting in the fall of 2024 and winter 2025. Elle Nikishkova, one of Sweden's foremost outdoor chefs and founder of Elle's Utemat, invites you to exclusive hunting weekends for small groups, where top bird hunting in Dalarna will be an unforgettable experience. Our hunting guide Jonas Åkerberg, who has extensive experience of different types of hunting and is a trained game master, is responsible for the hunt itself.

Elles Utemat Forest Camp is located next to a mountain pasture deep in the forest, northeast of Särna. The hunting grounds are close to the camp and cover an area of around 13,000 hectares, where pine trees dominate the landscape, with extensive marshes and babbling brooks. There are plenty of capercaillie and grouse on the hunting grounds.

Top bird hunting - a form of hunting that requires knowledge

To succeed in upland bird hunting requires a lot of knowledge, patience and not least luck with weather and natural conditions. This course will give you the basic knowledge to become a successful and independent top bird hunter. You will learn about how birds live and how to find the right habitat as well as see potential habitats on a map.

Out in the field, you will learn how to shoot your gun for top bird hunting, techniques for scouting and stalking as well as setting up in different environments. There is a lot to learn and practice before you get to a first shot. This course is therefore not about shooting a lot of birds, but about learning the basic knowledge to be able to hunt top birds. Sometimes you may ski many miles for days without even seeing a bird, another day you shoot two grouse in one morning. The availability of birds and how visible they are depends very much on natural conditions, weather and wind. Whether you can shoot a bird that you see through your binoculars depends more on your skill as a top bird hunter.

The peak bird hunting with Elles Utemat is, in short, very much about acquiring knowledge, experience and, above all, about a fantastic nature experience and discovery in magical environments. In our Forest Camp, you will also get to experience local delicacies during the meals that are cooked over an open fire.

Forest Camp: An authentic experience in the forest

During this course you will experience the authentic feeling of a real Forest Camp. We will stay overnight on field beds made with reindeer skins in insulated winter tents, equipped with an efficient gas stove.

Days in our forest camp start with a welcoming breakfast in the hunting lodge, followed by both morning and afternoon hunts in the scenic surroundings. Lunch will be in the field. Dinner will be cooked over an open fire in our outdoor kitchen and we have access to a warm hunting cabin for cozy evenings with socializing and theoretical briefings. Evenings will be spent relaxing in the tent sauna or in the wood-fired hot tub with a cold beer, providing the perfect end to each day of hunting in our lovely Forest Camp.
